two weeks ago, I lit an incense stick to repel the mosquitoes of hong kong. Before i borrowed them off my cousin he ironically said “just dont burn the house down” I decided to light them just before i slept, throughout the night i triedsleeping but was unable to, thinking it was so hot in my room i thought “probs just hong kong weather” at 4am i woke up to pee, to find my whole living room filled with black smoke, the incense had landed on the plastic packet of incense and burnt the whole packet. I threw out the burnt incense and opened up all the windows, only to realise that the glass table the incense was on had cracked because of the heat. without remembering my GCSE science days i put an ice pack on this crack. Exhausted from the smoke and still in need of a pee, i decided to pee, only to hear a giant smash. the glass table had exploded due to the contact of intense heat with intense cold. so there i was surrounded by black smoke and broken glass, i felt like i was in a horrible music video. without the music.exhausted I decided i could either cry right there and then, or listen to the only song availble on my spotify offline which was “I will survive” i picked myself up and then spent the next two hours cleaning the whole house, getting rid of the smoke smell, and picking up tiny pieces of glass and covering the table with a new table clothe to cover up the bit which had broke. by the time i was done it was 6am, I then went outside and threw all the evidence in a bin, thinking to myself “no one will ever know” i finally slept at 6am only to be awoken by my grandma at 6.30am with her holding a bag of broken glass, a burnt table clothe and a packet of black incense. Who knew that my grandma liked going through rubbish to find things to recycle every morning. she didnt say anything to me, but looked at me. when she left i heard her talking to her neighbours saying"If i shout at him, he will cry" in the end of the story I still got bitten by the mosquito and metaphorically by my stupidity of thinking i could get away with it. which teaches me, stick to a spray repellent, i could have died, and my grandma still thinks of me as a ten year old. but most of all never try and hide anything from grandma lam.
